🇦🇬 Raising Our Flag, Raising Our Voices: ABPS at the Antigua & Barbuda Independence Ceremony

On Monday, December 1st, 2025, members of the Antigua & Barbuda Progressive Society (ABPS) proudly gathered at Bowling Green Park in Manhattan for the official Antigua & Barbuda Flag Raising Ceremony, hosted in partnership with the NYC Department of Correction. Surrounded by community members, dignitaries, cultural leaders, and supporters from all over, we celebrated not only our nation’s independence — but also the resilience, unity, and spirit of Antiguans and Barbudans worldwide.

This year’s ceremony was especially meaningful for ABPS. One of our very own members, John Matthews, delivered remarks during the program, offering a heartfelt reflection on heritage, community, and the enduring contributions of Antiguans and Barbudans to New York City’s cultural landscape. The words reminded all in attendance that independence is not only a national milestone — it is a living, breathing commitment carried by every member of our community.
